In an effort to create a modern, centralized gathering point for locals as well as tourists, the Downtown Development District and the City of Baton Rouge have partnered to fund the creation of a Town Square to be located along North Boulevard, in the area of the Old State Capitol and Galvez plaza. Town Square will be a public space to accommodate a variety of recreational, assembly, and event uses. Some key points of interest will be an improved amphitheater-style plaza at the current Galvez Plaza, water features, improved landscaping, free WiFi, an extensive sound system, and a 35-foot high multi-media tower displaying anything from weather conditions to live events.
As part of a larger team, ABMB has provided survey, traffic and drainage analyses, resulting in plans to redistribute traffic patterns and create a more pedestrian-friendly corridor. Our firm is also involved in roadway modifications involving the conversion of two streets, St. Louis and St. Ferdinand, from one-way to two-way operations. Phase I of the construction was complete in Spring 2012.
